DEVELOPMENT EDUCATION

As part of the professional masters in art and design education at NCAD, I completed a module in development education in conjunction with the Ubuntu Network. Education is a powerful force for change, enabling us to critically reflect on the way things are, to identify social injustices and unsustainable practices and to act for a better world. This is what Development Education (DE) is about. Poverty, debt, aid, migration, climate change, human rights, environmental preservation, the Sustainable Development Goals...all raise issues and questions about development that we need to consider in order to be responsible global citizens. In our DE module we worked in groups to create art that tackled important global issues with the aim of creating awareness and building a plan of how to impliment DE in our classrooms as art educators. My group chose the to investigate the migrant crisis, below you can view some a break down of our project.
